Bamboo Tea Ladle (Takayama Chashaku) -Patina

Bamboo Tea Ladle (Takayama Chashaku) -Patina

  • Each of this product is one-of-a-kind and has unique colouration and patterning. We are not able to accept returns for aesthetic reasons.

Not knowing which tea ladle you will receive is part of the fun.

This bamboo tea ladle (chashaku) is meticulously crafted by artisans in Takayama, Nara Prefecture using susudake (smoke-stained bamboo) or shimidake (aged bamboo) . Susudake is bamboo that has turned dark brown after being smoked for hundreds of years in the ceilings of traditional Japanese thatched roof homes that have sunken fireplaces. Shimidake is bamboo with patterns of brown spots on it. Both provide a different type of beauty from shiratake bamboo, and allow you to enjoy a texture that is peerless.

You will not know whether the tea ladle is made from susudake or shimidake until it is delivered. Look forward to your tea ladle as a truly once-in-a-lifetime encounter.

How do Ippodo staff use it?

We use this bamboo tea ladle with our other favourite utensils when preparing matcha at precious times. The way that each ladle has its own distinctive pattern is one of its attractions.
